A resident of Yealand Redmayne for nearly 40 years, Viv has always loved sewing and textiles, and a couple of years ago decided to try her hand at making handbags. She became completely hooked on the process!
During a visit to the Outer Hebrides in 2017, she bought some Harris Tweed, and discovered the delight to be had in turning lengths of this wonderful fabric into practical and beautiful items. She has recently sourced some reasonably priced remnants of Harris Tweed, which means that her bags are very affordable. These variously sized off-cuts call for ingenuity on her part in piecing the fabric in appealing combinations of colours, especially in the patchwork sections which she incorporates into some of the bags. Her bags are lined with cotton lawn fabric, have internal pockets and a zip, and close with a magnetic snap. Some are embellished with handmade ceramic buttons.
This is the first time Viv has taken part in the Trail, so do come along and visit her in her little garden workshop in Yealand Redmayne, where she can talk you through the steps involved in making her handbags.
