Christine Stanford

I enjoy researching social history using the archives of museums. I use the information from old books and magazines, as well as looking at current issues about women and their working and home lives.  The techniques that I use involve layering papers, fabrics and images then trapping them with wax. I use a Bernina sewing machine to embellish the materials with free machine embroidery, adding lace or ribbons, buttons and beads to create a rich mix of influences from the past to the present. I make exquisite etui cases for scissors, needles and pins and journals for keeping notes, photos and memories in.
