I have been producing mixed media pieces since completing my degree in Embroidery at Manchester Metropolitan University in 1997. My practice explores ideas around the themes of memory and nostalgia using found materials to manipulate and rework. These processes of embellishment include fabric, wire, porcelain, stitch and more recently print and animation. My work is often the result of reassembling fragments of my own imagination and childhood memories mixed with the materials I use.
I exhibit across the UK, Europe, and the USA, with many pieces held in public and private collections – including the Embroiders Guild Educational Archive. Awards include ‘Award for Excellence’ British Craft Trade Fair 2002, ‘Best Product at Flair’, Belfast 2006, ‘Best Stand’ at The Art Market in Holmfirth 2009
I have taught in FE, HE and Adult education for 20 years and currently work on the ‘BA Textile’ Programme with Open College of the Arts at the University Creative Arts. I also deliver independent workshops for schools, colleges, museums, and galleries.
