Thrown and handbuilt ceramics

I create a range of hand built and thrown ceramics, drawing and painting with coloured slips and using a lead glaze which gives the pots their sparkle and vibrant colour.

I like to work quickly and spontaneously allowing each pot to maintain its own essence without being over worked. Each piece is individual, although I sometimes make a series of pieces on the same theme, or return to an idea, interpreting it differently.

I use red earthenware clay and a white slip into which I either dip, pour or paint a leather hard pot, the slip is some times used quite thinly allowing the red clay to show through.

My work is inspired by the drama and colour of the Lakeland hills and Morecombe Bay estuary in which I live, and reflects my passion for pattern and colour and my interest in the natural world.
