Beverley White a printmaker with a keen interest in natural history. Living by the shores of Morecambe Bay affords plenty of material for my work as the saltmarsh is a constant source of inspiration – following John Ruskin’s philosophies and ‘learning from nature’ is a way of life for me. Fungi, bird’s nests and animals are favourite subjects for watercolour studies and my interest in these results in neighbours frequently leaving disused bird’s nests or other specimens on the doorstep.
The printmaking begins with sketches which are developed, a loose outline drawing is transferred to the block and the cutting begins. Most of the blocks are black and white and here the cutting has to create good shapes and tones.
