My ceramic pieces are inspired by the natural landscape of Silverdale, where I have lived all my life. They include both thrown and altered vessels that are improvised through intuitive actions. I exploit an economy of transient gestures and the immediacy of plastic clay to capture its essence. I use ephemeral firing techniques, the effects of which highlight the certainty of chance. My interest in wood firing and raku firing started during my undergraduate and postgraduate studies at university, and developed further during anagama kiln work in Cumbria.
