I have lived in Arnside since 1980 and have always been fascinated by the very special light and textures to be found locally, especially in the woods. I have developed a unique style using sculpted textiles, brusho and collage to attempt to capture these qualities.
My pictures are usually an imaginative recollection of the textures, light and feeling I have experienced.Often as I am working on a picture a hidden narrative will appear.
Recently I have been making tiny pictures, using the same unique style, which I call Little Gems. These use my highly textural process to enhance collage pictures of well loved subjects such as animals, sea creatures and birds. I also make lino prints on fabric which are coloured using brusho dyes
My work is always based around fabric. This stems from my early training when I gained a degree in textiles and education from Southampton in the 1970’s. Since retiring from teaching I have been able to follow a more artistic path. My work can be seen in many local shops, galleries, exhibitions and cafes. I run workshops, when covid allows, and enjoy taking on commissions for some very unusual subjects.
