Angie Mitchell

I came up to the Lake District from Manchester as a student in the early seventies and was enthralled, and inspired by its natural beauty.

During the next twenty years or so I juggled my love of painting and drawing with bringing up 3 boys, and fulltime teaching.

My passion for ceramics was born about 10 years ago when I began making pots at with Mike and Vicky Eden’s pottery classes.

I now spend my time juggling my own work with teaching, family, and walking on the fells with my partner Hughie. We are now in the process of setting up a workshop under our house, where I can develop my own work and do some teaching to small groups of interested individuals.

My work is inspired by the drama and colour of the Lakeland hills and Morecambe Bay Estuary in which I live, it’s ever changing weather and it’s moods. I create a range of hand built ceramics, drawing and painting with coloured slips and glazes. I use various mark making techniques to add detail and information about the texture and pattern. Each piece is individual, although I sometimes make a series of pieces on the same theme, or return to an idea, interpreting it differently.

My drawings reflect my passion for pattern and texture and my delight and interest in wildlife, in particular hens and birds.

I sell my work through various galleries in the Lake District, Bay Potters and 5+ potters markets and exhibitions. I am also a member of Green Door Studios and the Northern Potters Association.
