Claire Orange

Since graduating in Ceramics and Three Dimensional Design at Bath Academy of Art in 1979, Claire Orange has lived and worked in the North East of England, until moving to the Silverdale area in 2001.

Alongside producing and exhibiting her own work, Claire has taught ceramics in several colleges of further education over a number of years, and is at present Lead Tutor in Ceramics at The Adult College, Lancaster.

‘I have always had the dilemma as to which I deem to be most important— the 3-dimensional form or the 2-dimensional qualities of the surface.

Until now, form has generally won!

Since moving to Silverdale, I have become obsessed with surface texture—and now, in an attempt to create harmony in my work, I am producing ceramic form as a vehicle on which to present the continued fascination for experimentation and development of applied decoration, colour and texture—all of which have evolved from references in my surroundings: landscape and seascape.’
