I love to capture a fleeting moment of light and texture as the weather shapes the landscape below it.
Having worked as a commercial artist since leaving college I use my knowledge of perspective, colour and space within my paintings. I have been strongly influenced by the work of the French Impressionists, and Turner but also by more cotemporary works by Howard Hodgkin.
I use a mixture of brush and palette knife, but am not afraid to use my
hands and fingers to manipulate and merge the paint.
To create added texture, I also like to experiment with adding sand,
sawdust, grit, fibres and more recently seeds to the paint.
My Sea paintings combine all my techniques to create the feeling of movement, sense of scale, power and light, plunging the viewer into the drama.
