Simon works in a small studio in his lovely Silverdale garden and it’s here that once a year he displays  and sells his work (although his work has formerly been sold in galleries in the Lake District). The transparent quality of   watercolours provide the perfect medium to capture the charm of the local landscape,  its beautiful woodland and the changing moods of the bay. In this year’s work Simon tries to capture the bay in all its many forms, from charming sunny days when the wet sands reflect the sky to the days when winter storms churn the sea. 

The Lakeland Fells have provided Simon with a lifelong playground and this very familiar landscape not surprisingly also influences his work, though he would be the first to confess that capturing the beauty and solitude of a quiet  day spent roaming the fells remains his greatest goal.

To provide a little relief from the struggle to capture the drama of the landscape and to provide the occasional new challenge, Simon paints some birds and other subjects. These test and challenges his skills as a painter.
