Creating bags has kept me sane during lockdown! Do come along to see what I’ve been sewing during the last year and a half.
I make my ‘TweedleVee’ Harris tweed handbags in my garden workshop in Yealand Redmayne. I have been experimenting with exciting colour combinations and designs, using new tweeds which I have sourced directly from the weavers on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. For variety, I have also been incorporating some high quality fabric from the renowned Abraham Moon woollen mills in West Yorkshire, and a few of the new bags even have elements made from environmentally friendly cork fabric.
The bags are lined with patterned cotton lawn intended to surprise customers by providing a vibrant contrast to the tweeds. The linings have an inner zipped pocket and a slip pocket, and where appropriate, the bag has an adjustable strap. Each Harris tweed bag has an authenticity label sewn onto the back.
I look forward to welcoming you to my workshop and sharing with you the fruits of my lockdown labours!
